Governor Walz Releases Budget – Wants State Spending to Grow to Whopping $65.5 Billion; Not Give Back Surplus

Tim Walz just released his budget proposal and he wants to keep the Democrats’ wasteful government spending at post-COVID bloated numbers. Walz’ proposal advocates for $65.5 Billion in spending for the FY 2026-27 biennial budget (only $500 Million less than the recent projected spending amount for that biennium). In FY 2020-21, total spending was only $47.4 Billion.

Governor Walz and Democrats have managed to grow government by a whopping 40% in the last several years, spent a record $20 Billion budget surplus that should’ve been given back to taxpayers and also raised taxes on Minnesotans.

Here’s the current projected, which has a project budget deficit of over $5 Billion by the Fiscal Year 2028-29 biennium.

Republicans need to lead here. The state should shrink back down from the massive growth that’s happened under Walz’ watch, which included tons of fraud and political paybacks. If Republicans shrink the budget back down, the state can free up the $20 Billion Walz spent of surplus funds that can be instead given back as the state’s largest tax cut in history!
