The great travesty to liberty in our lifetime was the unilateral exercising of “emergency powers” by Governors during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Citing a need to “slow the spread,” Governors like Minnesota’s Tim Walz illegally took over law-making functions of government and enacted anti-freedom dictates like business shutdowns, mask mandates, experimental shots required for state workers, and even an order for citizens to stay in their homes.
Governor Walz’ orders were met with resistance by brave business owners who defied his orders and opened back up. Which landed them all in court battles and in the case of Lisa Hanson of Albert Lea, 60 days behind bars. We had Lisa and Jane Moss on a recent episode of the Truth Hurts Show.
Today, the Never Again Bill was introduced in the Minnesota legislature. This important bill was initially authored in 2021 by Rep Erik Mortensen, who now serves as President of Action 4 Liberty. The Senate version of the bill (SF4246) was authored by Sen Nathan Wesenberg (R-Little Falls) and has the maximum amount of four co-authors.
In the House, freshman Rep Walter Hudson (R-Albertville) authored the House version (HF4257) with the support of 21 co-authors, some of which were against the bill in the previous legislative session, but probably saw it could cost them their jobs if they opposed it.
If passed, the Never Again Bill would remove Tim Walz and future governors’ abilities to unilaterally declare an emergency. It would also get rid of the ability for the governor to throw a citizen in jail for not following orders. And the bill also has a Bill of Rights for declared emergencies that protect our rights to free speech, assembly, right to keep and bear arms, worship and conduct businesses.
