The Democrats who control the entire Minnesota state government have allowed the far left portion of their Party to pilot the social agenda at the Capitol since taking over. This includes the nation’s most extreme abortion laws and a law that allows a child as young as six years old to get transgender surgery against the will of a parent.
One area of extreme change by the Democrats that has received little scrutiny in the Minnesota press is what they are doing to the state’s Human Rights Act. Last year, Action 4 Liberty reported that Democrats removed language that stated “the physical or sexual attachment to children by an adult is not a protected class.”
While acting on pedophilia remains an illegal act in the state, openly identifying as a minor attracted person is now a protected identity, according to the amended Human Rights Act. That means that employers, government and schools can’t discriminate based on the identity of being a pedophile.
The tweaks made in the Omnibus bill (SF 2909) passed by Democrats and signed by Governor Tim Walz last May also made “gender identity” a protected class without any exemption for religious institutions to discriminate based on this newly protected identity. Now many fear that churches and private schools will be prosecuted under the MN Human Rights Act for violating the newly added provisions.
Yesterday, a bill authored by Rep Harry Niska (R – Ramsey) that would protect religious institutions from violating the Human Rights Act was killed by Democrats on the House floor. HF 3926 was killed on a 67 to 56 vote. The vote was on a motion made by Democrat Majority Leader Jamie Long laying the bill on the table. A green vote below ensured that the bill would be killed.
