Judge Orders Fleet Farm to Make Firearm Purchase Records Available to Government & Keith Ellison

Keith Ellison has taken action to strip Minnesotans’ of their 2nd Amendment Right to bear arms. In a lawsuit against Fleet Farm, Ellison is demanding that his office and our state government are given access to weeks of firearm purchases and the information for the related buyer from Fleet Farm.

Despite this being unconstitutional on its face, Ellison has been pushing his lawsuit forward. This lawsuit sits in the 8th Circuit Court and recently, Judge John F. Docherty ruled that Fleet Farm is obligated to hand over this information.

This is perhaps the greatest infringement on gun and privacy rights in Minnesota’s history.

This all stems back to Ellison’s claim that Fleet Farm was illegally and repeatedly selling firearms to so-called “straw purchasers”. Straw purchasers are individuals who purchase a gun to sell or give the gun to a felon or otherwise prohibited gun owner. Ellison and his other attorneys argue that Fleet Farm knew or had reason to know that these individuals were purchasing guns for others and acted negligently.

Bear in mind that this is a civil lawsuit, not a criminal lawsuit. This means that the burden of proof is lower.

This invasion of privacy sets the stage for further government control of tracking firearm sales. Which is really what the leftists like Keith Ellison want.
